The Human Design Centers Explained Part I

I'm Jen!

Human Design coach, author, and personal development junkie. After a decade of helping Fortune 500s identify and articulate their “why”, I felt called to help individuals do the same.

hey there

Human Design centers are nine energy centers in the body that are used to understand your unique personality and how you interact with the world. Each center is associated with a different aspect of your life, such as your emotions, your thoughts, your identity, and your ability to take action.
Your Human Design chart will show you which centers are defined and which centers are undefined. Defined centers are centers that have a consistent flow of energy, while undefined centers are centers that are open to the flow of energy from the outside world.

Root Center
Life Force - Momentum - Adrenaline - Stress - Pressure

The Root Center is located at the base of the spine and is associated with your basic survival needs, such as food, shelter, and security. It is also associated with your sense of self-worth and your ability to ground yourself in the present moment.

If your Root Center is defined, you have a consistent flow of energy in this area. This means that you are naturally motivated and have a strong sense of purpose. You are also good at taking action and making decisions. However, you can also be too impulsive or aggressive if you are not careful.

If your Root Center is undefined, you are open to the flow of energy from the outside world. This means that you are more adaptable and flexible than people with defined Root Centers. However, you can also be more easily influenced by others and have difficulty making decisions on your own.

The Root Center is associated with the adrenal glands and the stress response. When you are in a stressful situation, your Root Center activates and releases adrenaline, which gives you the energy to fight or flight. However, if you are constantly stressed, your Root Center can become overactive and lead to health problems such as anxiety, depression, and fatigue.

The best way to manage your Root Center is to find ways to reduce stress in your life. This includes getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga. You can also help to balance your Root Center by connecting with nature, spending time with loved ones, and doing things that you enjoy.

Tips for working with your Root Center:
    •     Pay attention to your body's needs. When you are feeling stressed, tired, or overwhelmed, take a break and do something that helps you to relax.
    •    Trust your instincts. Your Root Center is a powerful source of intuition. When you are faced with a decision, take a moment to tune into your gut feeling.
    •     Be present in the moment. One of the best ways to ground yourself is to focus on the present moment. Pay attention to your breath, your surroundings, and the people around you.
    •    Find your tribe. Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Your tribe can help you to feel safe and secure.
    •     Celebrate your successes. When you achieve a goal, take a moment to celebrate your success. This will help you to build your confidence and self-worth.

Sacral Center
Motor center - Sustainability - Sexuality - Creativity

The Sacral Center is located below the navel and is associated with your creativity, your sexuality, and your ability to take action. It is also associated with your intuition and your ability to flow with the currents of life.

People with a defined Sacral Center are often described as being "magnetic" or "charismatic." They have a natural ability to connect with others and to get things done. They are also often very creative and intuitive.
People with an undefined Sacral Center are often described as being more "fluid" or "flexible." They are more open to the flow of energy from the outside world and they are less likely to be attached to any particular outcome. They are also often more intuitive than people with a defined Sacral Center.

If you have a defined Sacral Center, it is important to learn how to use your energy wisely. You can do this by following your intuition and by only taking on projects that you are passionate about. You should also avoid trying to force things to happen, as this will only lead to frustration.
If you have an undefined Sacral Center, it is important to learn how to ground yourself and to stay centered. You can do this by spending time in nature, by meditating, or by practicing yoga. You should also avoid getting too caught up in the emotions of others, as this can drain your energy.

Highlights for people with a defined Sacral Center:
    •    Listen to your intuition. Your Sacral Center is a powerful source of intuition, so it's important to listen to what it's telling you. If you feel drawn to something, go for it!
    •    Do what you love. When you're doing something you love, your Sacral Center will naturally flow with energy. This is when you're most likely to be productive and creative.
    •    Take breaks. Your Sacral Center needs time to recharge, so don't be afraid to take breaks when you need them.
Highlights for people with an undefined Sacral Center:
    •    Ground yourself. Spending time in nature, meditating, or practicing yoga can help you to ground yourself and stay centered.
    •    Avoid getting too caught up in the emotions of others. Your undefined Sacral Center is open to the flow of energy from the outside world. This can be a good thing, but it can also be draining. If you find yourself getting caught up in the emotions of others, take a step back and ground yourself.
    •    Trust yourself. You have a unique perspective and way of seeing the world. Trust yourself to make the best decisions for you.

Spleen Center
Instincts - Intuition - Fear- Immune system

The Spleen Center is located in the lower back, just below the diaphragm. The Spleen Center is associated with the immune system, intuition, and the ability to make quick decisions.
People with a defined Spleen Center have a strong immune system and are able to sense danger or illness before it manifests. They are also able to make quick decisions based on their intuition. People with an undefined Spleen Center are more susceptible to illness and need to be more careful about their environment. They may also have a harder time making decisions and may need to rely on others for guidance.

The Spleen Center is also associated with the ability to experience fear. People with a defined Spleen Center are able to use their fear as a signal to take action to protect themselves. People with an undefined Spleen Center may experience fear more intensely and may have a harder time dealing with it.
If you have a defined Spleen Center, you can use your intuition and your ability to make quick decisions to your advantage. You can also use your strong immune system to stay healthy. If you have an undefined Spleen Center, you can take steps to strengthen your immune system and to learn how to manage your fear.

Tips for working with your Spleen Center:
    •    Listen to your intuition. Your Spleen Center is constantly sending you messages about your environment and your health. Pay attention to these messages and take action to protect yourself.
    •    Trust your gut. When you make decisions, listen to your gut instinct. Don't overthink things. Just go with your gut.
    •    Take care of your body. Eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. Your Spleen Center is responsible for your immune system, so it's important to take care of your body.
    •    Manage your fear. Fear is a natural emotion, but it can be overwhelming if you don't know how to deal with it. There are many ways to manage fear, such as meditation, yoga, and therapy.

Solar Plexus
Motor - Awareness - Emotions - Sensitivity

The Solar Plexus Center is located just below the rib cage and is associated with your emotions, your self-confidence, and your ability to make decisions. It is also associated with your willpower and your ability to assert yourself.

If your Solar Plexus Center is defined, it means that you have a consistent flow of emotional energy. This can make you a naturally emotional person, with strong feelings that can be difficult to control. However, it also means that you have a great deal of emotional intelligence and the ability to understand and process your own emotions, as well as the emotions of others.

If your Solar Plexus Center is undefined, it means that you are open to the flow of emotional energy from the outside world. This can make you more susceptible to the emotions of others, and it can be difficult for you to distinguish between your own emotions and the emotions of others. However, it also means that you have a great deal of emotional potential, and you can learn to use the emotions of others to fuel your own creativity and growth.

The Solar Plexus Center is a powerful center, and it is important to learn how to work with it effectively. If you have a defined Solar Plexus Center, it is important to learn how to manage your emotions and to make decisions based on your own inner authority, rather than on the emotions of others. If you have an undefined Solar Plexus Center, it is important to learn how to set boundaries and to protect yourself from the emotions of others.

Tips for working with the Solar Plexus Center:
    •    Be aware of your emotions. The first step to working with your emotions is to become aware of them. Pay attention to how you feel in different situations, and try to identify the triggers that cause you to feel certain emotions.
    •    Don't judge your emotions. It is important to remember that emotions are neither good nor bad. They are simply information that your body is giving you. Don't judge yourself for feeling certain emotions, and don't try to suppress them.
    •    Express your emotions in a healthy way. Once you are aware of your emotions, you can start to express them in a healthy way. This may involve talking to a friend or therapist, journaling, or creating art.
    •    Set boundaries. If you have an undefined Solar Plexus Center, it is important to set boundaries and to protect yourself from the emotions of others. This may involve saying no to requests that you don't want to do, or limiting your time with people who drain your energy.
    •    Trust your intuition. The Solar Plexus Center is associated with your willpower and your ability to assert yourself. When you are in alignment with your intuition, you will feel confident and motivated to take action.
